Our Journey

Heritage Paddington terraces

Lath-and-plaster, lime mortar, tongue-and-groove floors, hand-cast cornices. Heritage Paddington needs trades who know the materials.

Paddington is one of Sydney's most heritage-dense suburbs. Victorian and Edwardian terraces dominate the streetscapes — most under heritage conservation overlays, many on the State Heritage Register, all needing sympathetic detailing alongside any modern services upgrade. Our Paddington renovation portfolio is heavy on heritage restoration, sympathetic kitchen and bathroom modernisation, rear extensions matched to original detail, and structural strengthening of the period substrate.

What that needs: trades who've worked with the original materials. Lath-and-plaster substrates. Lime mortar joints. Tongue-and-groove flooring. Picture rails sized to specific timber heights that don't exist at Bunnings. Cornices with profiles that need replicating from the original. Our trades work these materials regularly across Paddington, Woollahra, Surry Hills and the Inner West. The new work sits comfortably alongside the original — not stuck on top of it.

Who We Are

Why Paddington heritage clients

Strip carpets to check floors before replacing. Test paint layers before stripping. Default preservation — that's the standard.

Most of our Paddington renovation work comes from clients who've seen heritage homes wrecked by builders who didn't respect the original detail. They've heard the stories. The neighbour who lost the original cornices because the builder said they were 'too damaged to save.' The friend whose Victorian terrace lost its character permanently to a generic open-plan. The relative who paid premium and got mediocre.

We work differently in Paddington. Default preservation. Repair before replace. Test paint layers before stripping. Strip carpets to check the floors before replacing. Retain skirtings, architraves, cornices, ceiling roses, leadlight, fireplace surrounds wherever possible. Where replacement is unavoidable, we replicate from the original profile. That standard takes longer and costs more than the lazy alternative — and it's why heritage clients hire us.
